There is a day, early in the month, when Mallorca changes without warning. It isn’t the heat — the heat is still here. It’s something else. The roads empty out a little, the villages go back to their proper size, and the Binibona valley sounds the way it sounds the rest of the year.

In the Serra de Tramuntana the change shows in the light long before it shows on the thermometer. Lower, more golden, longer across the stone. The olive trees cast different shadows. Mornings arrive with a clean air that wasn’t there a few weeks ago.

September doesn’t end the summer. It puts it back where it belongs.

The paths are quiet again

In summer, walking the Tramuntana means getting up very early. In September it stops being that. Temperatures drop just enough for a mid-morning route to be a pleasure again, and the trails recover the silence that belongs to them.

From Binibona, the landscape starts at the door. The old pilgrims’ path to Lluc passes close by, between dry-stone walls and holm oaks that give shade for almost the whole way. It’s one of those routes that needs no explanation. You walk it, and that’s that.

There are walks of an hour and walks of a whole day. There is also the option of going nowhere at all and watching the mountain from the garden, which in September counts as a plan too.

Everyone chooses their own distance.

The sea, at its best

The Mediterranean is slow to cool. After a whole summer storing up sun, September is in fact one of the finest months of the year to get into the water — and the north of the island is a short drive from the finca.

The coves of the north coast return to their proper scale. The mountain roads down to the sea are driven without queues. And the stone villages inland — Caimari, Selva, Campanet, Alaró — go back to being what they are the rest of the year: places where people live.

It’s the moment to see the island without having to share it.

Mirabona, the table in transition

In the kitchen, September is a generous month. The last of summer and the first of autumn arrive together: tomatoes still at their peak, figs, grapes just harvested, the first vegetables of the cold season.

Our kitchen follows that calendar without forcing it. Island produce, recipes that look at tradition from the present, and a wine list with a clear Mallorcan presence — Binissalem, Pla i Llevant, V.T. Mallorca — alongside small producers whose labels say something about where they come from.

And something September allows again without conditions: dinner outside, on the terrace, with no need to look for shade or wait for it to cool. The conversation stretches out on its own.

Back to yourself, not to the routine

September has a reputation as the month of going back. Of diaries filling up again and resolutions that start on a Monday.

Here it works the other way round. At The Garden Spa, our solar-heated wooden pool keeps the water at 35°C, surrounded by greenery and reserved for our guests alone. Beside it, the dry sauna, set into an old stone shelter, lit only when someone is going to use it. And in the mornings, the option of starting the day with a private outdoor yoga session, guided by Sintje.

It isn’t a programme. It’s a set of options, available when the body asks for them and not before.

A September at your own pace

A room gathered in stone and wood. A breakfast that stretches out facing the Tramuntana. A walk, a swim, a dinner with no clock. The whole island running at half speed, waiting.

Ca’n Beneït is still here, in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana, letting the landscape set the pace. In September too. In September above all.
